Soca music is probably the number one reason to go to carnival anywhere in the caribbean. It wouldn’t be a far stretch to say the majority of island people’s calenders rotate around carnival. Soca music is no exception to this rule. The majority of soca music is released to coincide with the caribbean carnival calender , which happens to be all year round.
With a fast tempo and wild lyrics soca music is perfect for tramping down the road, behind your favorite band, while whining on down!! Some of the premier soca artist out today include Machel Montano, Allison Hinds, Bunji Garlin, and Patrice Roberts just to name a few. The problem most people find is actually tracking down the new soca songs and riddims as they are released by these artistt. This is where we come in.
Below you’ll find two categories of soca music, soca riddims and soca songs. A soca riddim ( like a reggae riddim) is a collection of songs which all have the same instrumental ( or riddim as we call it). A soca single is really just that, a single song with its own unique instrumental. We have organized the riddims and singles by date, that way its easier to find new music. Also each riddim and single has a rating which will let you know what other people think about it. We also will be doing a monthly podcast with the new songs released each month mixed into a 30 minute segement. We’ve also included profiles of your favorite soca artist as well as music videos.
Check out the music, rate it and comment on the new songs so others can know what you think about, and make sure to enjoy the music!!!
